•Fracture lower ribs.
•No hemothorax – erect lateral view of the chest could detect small amount of blood in posterior costophrenic recess.
•Anticipate solid organ injury.


•Fracture of 1st and 2nd ribs.
•‘Apical cap’ – localised hemorrhage.
•Look for any evidence of great vessel injury.

FLAIL CHEST

•Multiple rib fracture.
•Segmental fracture.
